Now includes PCB Mounting Hardware, at no additional charge!
Standard KeyWiz USB Features:
- 50 total direct processor input lines. 49 Definable and 1 Dedicated Shazaaam! More than enough inputs for a full-blown 4-Player control panel. No Matrix, No Multi-plexing, No Blocking, No Phantom Keys and no variable delays. All inputs are given equal priority and speed. If you see an interface with more claimed inputs than it has pins on it's main processor (plus at least 4 more for power and USB) or multiple ICs, it's using multi-plexing, or worse, a matrix. The inputs on the KeyWiz USB all go directly to the main CPU. It also uses a single common ground shared with every switch, for simple wiring and troubleshooting.
- 16mhz Processor. Fast RISC based, High-input count microprocessor.
- Per-Input State-Based De-bounce Code. Key-event updates are sent the moment any input has stabilized and has met user-defined de-bounce criteria.
- Dedicated Shazaaam! Key Input. Like the shift key on a keyboard, the Shazaaam! Key lets all 49 of your buttons/joystick directions have an alternate key assignment. Another unique Shazaaam! feature is that, with special wiring and a couple of inexpensive diodes, any switch can be modified to send a code from the alternate set with a single button press! This means you can have up to 49 additional switches for secondary functions, and still have all 49 inputs available for primary gaming controls.
- Fully Programmable. All 49 normal and 49 Shazaaam! key definitions can be configured to suit your application. Key definitions can be selectively stored either in true on-chip EEPROM to be retained through power cycles, or uploaded into SRAM on-the-fly for immediate temporary use. This allows easy switching between definition sets for different applications, without placing undue wear on the internal EEPROM. The EEPROM is rated at about 100,000 write cycles, while SRAM writes are unlimited.
- Jumperless Operation. A custom codeset can be uploaded at any time, with no re-configuration of the hardware required.
- User-definable De-Bounce Level. Rather than us just setting some middle-of-the-road value which makes things slower than they need to be, we put the power in your hands to have as little or as much de-bounce as needed for your switch types. We always recommend starting at the lowest level, and if your switches bounce, you can just kick it up one notch at a time until they don't. It's that simple and this ensures the highest performance for any panel. Higher De-bounce levels are also very useful for increasing the accuracy of non-human actuated switches, such as those used in Skeeball scorekeepers and the like. The De-Bounce level can be stored in EEPROM to be maintained through power cycles, or SRAM for temporary use, just like key definitions.
- NKRO Technology. Gives KeyWizUSB the highest reliability and maximum throughput capabilities without "stuck" or "missed" keys. There is no limitation on simultaneously pressed keys, unlike 6KRO and 12KRO-type implementations.
- MAMETM Ready Right-Out-Of-The-Box. By popular demand, the KeyWiz default codeset has been made compatible with most MAME defaults and includes other useful regular and Shazaaam! Key definitions. But thanks to it's true EEPROM storage, your KeyWiz USB will already be configured exactly as you configured it, right at power up!
- Volume Control Features. Any normal or Shazaaam! definition can be set for Volume UP, Volume DOWN or MUTE.
- Full-featured, Easy-to-use Custom Codeset Management Software. Completely mouse/trackball driven. One-click selection of any of 16 user definable codesets (49 normal and 49 Shazaaam! codes per). Codeset is immediatelly active after a less-than 1-second upload time! Simple command-line operation is also possible for temporarily switching the active codeset to one of the 16 user-defined sets through your favorite front-end software or batch files. All functions provide immediate context-sensitive on-screen help. Left-clicking on any input immediately shows a full keyboard fly-in from which to select the desired standard function, while right-clicking does the same for Shazaaam! definitions. Additional features include a simple input test screen, as well as a text-output screen to cut-and- paste to your favorite editor for easy printing of wiring cheatsheets.
- OS independant. The default MAME-compatible keycode definitions are pre-defined in EEPROM for use on any system which supports the full USB stack. Tested systems include: Win10, Win7, WinXP, Win2k and most Linux distros. Programming software currently supports Windows only. However, once a custom codeset is uploaded to EEPROM, that codeset will be the set used when subsequently attached to other systems. NOTE: The KeyWiz USB is not compatible with DOS (or other ancient operating systems), due to limitations in BIOS USB implementations.
- Optmized Footprint. 1.55 x 4.43 inches. Large enough for easy connections, but small enough to mount just about anywhere.
- Dual-layer PCB. Highest quality for durability and reliable operation.
- 52 Industrial-Quality Screw Connection Points Available on the PCB. (Optional) 49 programmable inputs, 1 Shazaaam! Key input, 1 Ground, and 1 +5v DC output connection for powered joysticks or other low current 5v DC accessories.
- Completely USB Port Powered. No external power source necessary.
- 30" Micro-USB Cable Included. Longer cable is available as an option.
- Proudly Designed, Developed and Assembled in the USA. Shipped from our warehouse in Europe The Netherlands!
